PRODUCT

Design

Bring us your new product idea and we will optimize the function, value and appearance to take your idea from concept to market-ready. For over 30 years we’ve helped hundreds of inventors, doctors, and entrepreneurs to create award-winning products that improve and enhance people’s lives. Our portfolio represents successful products that balance functionality and aesthetics with the needs of the end-user. No matter where you are in the development cycle, we will collaborate with you at each step of the design process to bring your idea to life.

The Product Design Process

Ideation

The first stage for creating a new product, after researching competitive designs that already exist, is to create a series of 2D drawings that explore possible features, colors and methods for manufacture. Next, we will create a 3D model to uncover design strengths and weaknesses. Often a simple, non-functioning 'sight model' can be used to generate interest from investors or be photographed for promotional marketing. Design details are further refined after this stage to produce a final product ready for manufacturing.

Computer Modeling

Our product design work flow centers around 3D digital models that can be easily modified and tested to validate design decisions. These models are useful for creating photo-realistic renderings and working prototypes. Finally, we will prepare a set of control drawings that describe the manufacturing details necessary for successful molding and assembly.

Prototypes are tested to find problems and make improvements.

Ergonomic Analysis

Ergonomics discovers and applies information about human behavior, abilities, and limitations. The first step in designing a good product is to consider the user. Process, Materials, and Measurements - a reference book for industrial designers - is a collaboration by the faculty at the Cleveland Institute of Art. Carla Blackman, principal at Design Interface, authored the chapter on Ergonomics. She has taught the subject for over 30 years at CIA.
