Do you have a new product idea?
Perhaps you've invented a new product, but it's just an idea in your head. Our talented and knowledgeable designers can create a step-by-step approach for you that takes your idea from concept to reality. Developing an idea in phases allows you the flexibility to explore possibilities and choose the appropriate path to bring it to market. We can work with you at any point along the development cycle, from initial concepts to final production.
Concept exploration
Moving forward with a new idea often requires some initial concept sketches to clarify your thoughts. Creating a visual image of the idea is invaluable for exploring possible features, options, colors and manufacturing options.
3D models or prototypes
Moving your design into three dimensions is a worthwhile step that can uncover strengths and weaknesses. A simple, non-functioning 'sight model' can be used for showing investors or taking photographs for a brochure. Alternatively, a fully-functional 'rapid prototype' is meant to emulate the final design down to the last detail.
Computer modeling
Our industrial design workflow centers around 3D digital models that can be easily modified and tested to validate design decisions. These models are useful for creating photo-realistic renderings, working prototypes, or even animations. Finally, we will prepare a set of 'control drawings' that explain the manufacturing details necessary for successful molding and assembly.
Ergonomic analysis
Ergonomics discovers and applies information about human behavior, abilities, and limitations. The first step in designing a good product is to consider the user in this process. Process, Materials, and Measurements - a reference book for industrial designers - is a collaboration by the faculty at the Cleveland Institute of Art. Carla Blackman authored the chapter on Ergonomics. She has taught the subject for 26 years at CIA.
